BORN
AND RAISED in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Chad Thevenot (Sugar
Jones), serves up southern-fried, indie rock – an eclectic
mix of funk, rock, and pop.
___In
1994, Sugar Jones self-produced their first CD, The
Push. Austin Arena magazine described the album this
way: “Thought-provoking songs of love and love lost, race,
compassion, introspection and violence contribute a worldly consciousness
to this colorful frontispiece of words and music.” We couldn't
have said it better ourselves. The group re-mastered and re-released
The Push in 2002.

In 2001 with his second CD, Bring Your Own Insanity,
Sugar crafted an ambitious work laced with infectious grooves, inventive
arrangements, and introspective lyrics. The record featured the
funky riffs of George Porter Jr., legendary bassist of The Meters.
OffBeat, Louisiana’s music magazine, called it “the
most thought-provoking funk CD of this young year.”
___The
group is currently recording their third CD, titled Satsuma
Skin, scheduled for release in 2004, in which Sugar promises
to "Turn it up a notch." You can hear the music and read
the lyrics here.___
